Almonds

Why do almonds fit in a balanced diet? Almonds are high in healthy monounsaturated fats, fibre, protein, antioxidants, and various important micronutrients such as vitamin E or magnesium. They are also very low in carbs. Studies have shown that eating almonds helps reduce hunger and the desire to eat.

Research also suggests that the increased magnesium intake that almonds help with can improve blood sugar control, type 2 diabetes, and blood pressure. Eating almonds has been shown to improve cholesterol.

What do almonds taste like? They are fruity, dark chocolatey, nutty, woody, toasty and earthy. A typical almond flavour adds overall intensity to any meal.

Why does cocoa powder fit in a balanced diet? Research is showing that health benefits of cocoa include decreased inflammation, improved heart and brain health, blood sugar and weight control and healthy teeth and skin. Some studies even suggest that it’s flavanol content has positive effects on mood and overall psychological well-being.

Cocoa may exert some positive effects on mood and symptoms of depression by reducing stress levels and improving calmness, contentment and overall psychological well-being. However, more research is needed.

What does cocoa powder taste like? It has a strong chocolaty taste but is also astringent and bitter.

We use cocoa powder in our Chocolate Spread, Brownie Baking Mix, and Mug Cake Chocolate.

Why does coconut fit in a balanced diet? Coconut is a very good source of fibre and many essential minerals, such as manganese, copper, iron, and selenium. It’s high in fat but low in sugar and carbs. Research shows it promotes blood sugar regulation and reduces certain risk factors for heart disease.

What does coconut taste like? Coconut has a tropical, nutty, and mildly sweet flavour.

We use it in the form of coconut flour and dried coconut chips. You will find coconut in our Baking Mix for Sweet Dough, Muesli Apple-Nut and Muesli Red Berry, all of our Mug Cake variations, Brownie Baking Mix, Crumble Baking Mix, and Pre-baked Buns.

Erythritol

Why does erythritol fit in a balanced diet? Erythritol is a sweetener that can help you reduce your sugar intake. It has no calories and doesn’t impact your insulin levels. That’s because it passes through your body undigested. You can read more about the benefits of erythritol in our blog post.

What does erythritol taste like? Erythritol has a pleasant sweetness profile similar to regular sugar. Compared to other alternative sweeteners it doesn’t have a bad aftertaste that lingers.

We use erythritol in our Chocolate Spread, all of our Fruit Spread variations, all of our Mug Cake variations, Brownie Baking Mix, and Crumble Baking Mix.

Why does flaxseed fit in a balanced diet? Flaxseed is filled with valuable nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, protein, magnesium, and phosphorus. Flaxseed flour is a great alternative to refined wheat flour because it can be used to make bread, pasta or pizza with significantly less carbs and more fibre.

What does flaxseed taste like? The flavour of flaxseed can be described as mild, nutty or earthy with a hint of sweetness.

We use flaxseed in all of our breads, pizza bases, pasta, toasts, muesli, and even dessert products. Getting your daily flaxseed boost is a piece of cake with us.

Psyllium Husk

Why does psyllium husk fit in a balanced diet? Psyllium is a soluble fibre from the seeds of an herb called Plantago ovata. Research shows that it could help with digestive issues by improving bowel movements and serving as a prebiotic that beneficial gut bacteria feed on.

Studies also suggest that psyllium taken as a part of a healthy diet can reduce a person’s risk of heart disease by lowering blood pressure and improving lipid levels. It may boost satiety and aid weight loss as well as lower blood sugar levels.

What does psyllium husk taste like? Psyllium husk on its own has a mild uninteresting flavour. That’s why it’s ideal to use it along with other ingredients that add flavour.

We use psyllium husk in all of our breads, toastspasta, and pizza bases.

Why do pumpkin seeds fit in a balanced diet? Pumpkin seeds are rich in protein, antioxidants, iron, zinc, magnesium and many other nutrients. Research has shown that pumpkin seeds improve heart health, blood sugar levels, fertility and sleep quality. They may even protect against certain types of cancer and improve immune function.

What do pumpkin seeds taste like? Pumpkin seeds have a very mild nutty flavour, making them a great base for seasonings. Their texture after roasting is super crispy and crunchy.

We use pumpkin seeds in our Toast Squares Carrot-Pumpkin, Pumpkin Seed Bread Baking Mix, and Muesli Red Berry. We also use pumpkin seed protein in all of our bread baking mixes and pasta.

Why do raspberries fit in a balanced diet? Raspberries are a low sugar fruit that is a great source of antioxidants, fibre, vitamin C, and many other important vitamins and minerals. Research suggests that they may protect against diabetes, cancer, obesity, and arthritis and they may even provide anti-aging effects.

What do raspberries taste like? Raspberries have sweet flavour with a tart undertone.

We use raspberries in our Muesli Red Berry, Raspberry Mug Cake, and Raspberry Fruit Spread.

Why do soybeans fit in a balanced diet? Soybeans are a great source of plant protein, fibre, vitamins, and minerals. Research suggests that soy-rich diets may lower blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels. They may also improve fertility, reduce symptoms of menopause, and protect against breast and prostate cancer.

What do soybeans taste like? Mature soy beans taste similar to white beans when cooked. On the other hand, Edamame is sweeter and a little grassy because it is harvested young.

We use soy in a form of flour and flakes. You will find soy flour in our Pizza Bases Thin & Crispy, all of our Toast Square variations, all Mug Cake variations, and Baking Mix for Sweet Dough. We also use soy flakes in our Muesli Red Berry and Muesli Apple-Nuts.
